Late Night...

As most of you know, Late Night with Conan had it's last episode a couple of weeks ago. It was a pretty sad episode if you've watched him over the years. Not that sad since he's just moving an hour earlier and taking over for Leno who I'm not really a fan of in the first place, but sad that his late night antics will no longer be as zany. I first found Conan one night in high school when he used to be on at 2 in the morning, probably a little over 10 years ago (that just made me feel really old), and was instantly a fan. He is hands down the funniest man in late night television and it's great that he's taking over The Tonight Show.

So Jimmy Fallon took over for Conan last night in his premiere episode and I'm holding off on my opinion until he gets some more shows under his belt. He had an all star lineup with Robert Deniro, Justin Timberlake and Van Morrison, but somehow the show wasn't exactly what I had hoped for. I was a big fan of the choice to have Fallon replace Conan, especially after hearing some of the other choices they had in mind (Carson Daly, Demitri Martin (who is hilarious but not for a guest/host talk show)) and I remember he did well filling in for Letterman when he had his heart surgery. I'm not sure if it was the fact that he was nervous about his first guest being Deniro or if Deniro is just a bad guest, but that interview went terrible. Then my boy, JT, came on and killed it but there was a strange dichotomy between the two interviews that made Deniro seem really old and out of touch but at the same time made JT and Fallon seem really young and immature. There was one point when JT and Fallon were standing up doing an impersonation of John Mayer and Deniro was sitting in his chair, seemingly unaware of who John Mayer was and questioning why he agreed to come on the show.

The best part about the show is the fact that Fallon has The Roots as his house band. I thought it was awesome that Conan had Max Weinberg of the E Street Band (The Boss' band) but this is much cooler. Also Van Morrison tore the house down. If you don't like VM, you have problems.

Skip to the last segment to see Van Morrison be awesome.

Anyway, not a whole lot else going on over here. More of the same. Hopefully something will change soon or something will happen in my life to break the monotony. Go big or go home...
