So the Olympics are almost over...finally. I don't know why it sounds so unpatriotic to say this, but the Olypmics really annoy me. The opening ceremonies are cool for about 30 minutes, snowboarding is awesome, luge is terrifying but exciting, hockey rules and I can watch various skiing events for 15 minutes or so before getting bored, but basically the winter games should last a weekend. I get it, it's cool and it only happens every 4 years and countries from around the world get to participate and it's historic and blah blah blah. Boring. Figure skating or ice dancing or whatever it's called had about ten minutes of excitement and that was when Kim Yu Na pretty much had 'the greatest olympic performance [random chick announcer] had ever seen!' You know what, it was cool. And while I could tell that she was the best on the ice by far, whoever came in 2nd didn't seem to be all that much better than whoever came in last. A friend said something to the effect of, "what kind of sport hands out kleenex after you're done and not a towel?" Exactly. Call me crazy, or unpatriotic, but I would rather be watching Parks and Rec or Community or 30 Rock instead of 4 hours of ice dancing.
That said, I am excited for the hockey game today. I love that it's US vs Canada. I hope we win, but at the same time, it's always nice when the host country can win an important gold medal. It would be like the US winning the gold in basketball if it were hosted here in Chicago or some other big city. Is soccer a summer olympic sport? If not, it should be and if it is, how do I not know about it?
Anyway, as this fortnight winds down, I'm glad that Korean girl won (anybody else think her life was in danger if she didn't?) and I'm glad Shaun White won (he's a beast) and I'm glad that other kid put his medal by his crotch and had some girl kiss it at a bar - that's hilarious. Anyone who thinks that kid is an ass, I'd like to remind you that he's like 20 and a dude and drunk and has a lot of attention on him for possibly the first time ever. That cracked me up.

Finally...
There are a few things that lets me know fall is fast approaching. The leaves start to turn, humidity becomes scarce, previews for upcoming tv shows start popping up, but perhaps best of all is tonight. The kickoff for college football. For being such a great time to play sports, the summer really sucks for watching it. Unless you are a die hard baseball fan there isn't a whole lot going on. I watch the tigers. When I'm around. And I'm not doing something else. But unlike the Pistons, the Lions or the Spartans, I don't plan my life/week/day around it.

It all starts to change now though. Every saturday for the rest of the year is pretty much booked for me. Sure I'll go other places and have plans, but for 3 hours every saturday I get to root for a team that I love. It's something that I miss a lot during the summer. Once it's past mid-June and the NBA finals are over, thee really isn't anything going on in the world of sports until today. The Olympics are an exception. It's more than enough to hold me over until Oct. 28th when the NBA tips-off. I have long held the belief that the best time of the year is in November when you get to watch all of your favorite teams play, but waiting with anticipation for the season to start is also a pretty great thing.

Right now I am filled with so much hope and anxiety. Is this gonna be our year? MSU has a tendency to start out hot and then sort of fizzle away, but I can't help but feel that this is going to be a great year. National Championship? I don't know if I'd go that far; but I hope so.
Anyways, I just wanted to make sure I got this in before Saturday's big game ( @ Cal, 8pm on ABC). Go State! As always, go big or go home.

Olympics...
So the Olympics started. China spent over $300 million dollars on the opening ceremony which is kind of absurd for many reasons. Is it just me or does there seem to be a ton of hype behind this years summer olympics. I don't remember the games being so pumped. I have been really pumped about the new "dream team" for a long time but other than that, the only thing I really look forward to is diving. So I tried to watch some events that I don't usually pay attention to and I have to say, there is no doubt in my mind why they call them 'games.' Air rifle is an olympic sport? It's not a sport, it's a game. Anyways, they should put some crazy games in there that are fun to watch, like paintball and stuff. That would rule.
The PGA championship did all it could to grab my attention without Tiger playing in it. It literally took Ben Curtis reppin the D with a Lions hat, Sergio going for his first major, the fact that it was in Oakland Hills (the only major course I've ever played (and in the D)) and a putt on 18 for the win to keep me from changing it to America's Best Dance Crew (supa crew what!).
Sad weekend on the whole though. Issac Hayes and Bernie Mac were legends. Bernie Mac cracks me up. His voice slayed me and the looks he could give people with his eyes was ridiculous. He was the only funny part in any of the Ocean's movies and The Bernie Mac show might be one of the most underrated sitcoms.
Anyways, go big or go home.

Olympic Torch...
Is it just me or does anyone else find the protests to the Olympic Torch running slightly hilarious. Don't get me wrong I'm going to boycott (except for Team USA Basketball (I've waited too long to not watch)) but I find the attempts to protest are hilarious. I am down with the protests and am down with people marching and holding banners and blocking roads but for real, people are going crazy. Literally climbing up the wall, or the bridge.
The funniest one by far was in Paris when that guy tried to grab the torch from that chick. It was so innocuous I couldn't believe what a hoopla they made out of it. Some dude ran up and tried to grab it and then like 3000 dudes pounced on him. The funny part was that he didn't seem to have a game plan. Like he got up to it and grabbed it and then wasn't sure what to do if he actually got it away from her.
Anyway there's this scene in Zoolander when everyone is at a red carpet and some anti child labor people or something show up (I think it was Ben Stiller's mom) and throw an egg at Mugatu. Someone screams, "look out she's got an egg!!" and then everyone screams. It was hilarious and this reminded me of that scene. Kind of crazy.
Anyways, I'll try and get back to blogging more. I'm kind of busy and bored at the same time if that makes sense. As always, go big and stuff.

oh ps - the weather is finally getting nice and I'm looking to do something fun in the summer that I've never done before. I am mad I didn't start snowboarding until it was too late so if there's anything cool that people do in the spring/summer that is different but fun, let me know.
