The Lions...

I still have faith that we can win some games. Call me crazy but next year I see us going to the Superbowl. Before we get there, we need to shed the stigma associated with us. We're not as bad as people think, but this Simpsons clip kinda hurts.

Anyway, last time we played the Bears we beat them but then they cheated so we lost. Hopefully this weekend they won't change the rules on us.

A Weekend of Excess...

It's 11pm (EST) on Sunday and I'm still full. Not so much from Thanksgiving, just an accumulation of food that kept getting added to a stomach that hasn't been hungry in 5 days - a 5 days in which the most exercise I got was the endless hours playing Halo with Other Guy. Suffice to say it was a fabulous Thanksgiving holiday, slightly marred only by the fact that the Lions once again got trounced on national TV. It's one thing to get dismantled in local markets, but to have it happen in front of a national audience that already expects it makes it sort of hard to swallow, but once this ship rights itself and Stafford and Megatron are the greatest QB/Receiving duo in the league, things will change.

We're just a few days away from December now and I gotta ask, where's the snow? I love the fall, and this weather can't be beat, but if it's not gonna be warm enough for golf, and much too cold for laying out, I think I'd like a little snow. Okay, maybe hold off for a couple more weeks...

Back to the grind tomorrow. Not sure what grind that is, but back to the grind of looking for a grind to get into. Here's my current dilemma - I have a lot of things I'd like to get started in Chicago but as I have no job, I can't very well start scheduling weekly things (volunteering, piano lessons etc.) if I don't have a work schedule. So do I a) wait til I get a job, or b) do whatever I want and figure the rest out as I go? I'm sticking with 'b' for now as that's generally how I roll and why fix it if it ain't broke? Also Plan B is always superior to Plan A because if the latter is so great, why would you come up with the former?

I'm out. Go big.

Random Thoughts...

First, as many of you probably already know, the Pistons are done. Donezo. The franchise as we know it will never be the same. Without getting into it too much, this has been the most frustratingly terrible season in my entire life. I remember back in the mid nineties when we went through our teal phase and only won 19 games in 95, but this was another level of pure crap. Those days we just flat out sucked. We had nobody until Grant Hill came along and opened things up for us. This year was a bunch of overpaid arrogant b*tches that embarrassed fans like myself every time they stepped on the court. I'm hoping next year will be different, but with Curry most likely still at the helm, it'll be hard to change. So long A.I. So long Rasheed. I'm also hoping this is so long to Tayshaun, Amir and Maxiell and hello to Bosh, Boozer, Odom or anyone who can shoot and someone who can be a leader. I hope Rip stays. Trading him makes sense, but it would kill me if he goes. I hope McDyess signs with a contender like the Cavs or the Lakers or even the Celtics. This season broke my heart.

Second, it was 90+ degrees yesterday. While that's all well and good in July, it's April. This is getting out of hand. It was a nice reprieve from the rain, but I would have been happy with 75 and sunny. I'm a huge fan of spring and love watching April showers turn into May flowers, but here in nyc, it goes straight from winter to summer. Oh well, nothing to cry about I suppose.

Lastly, the Lions drafted Georgia QB Matt Stafford with the number 1 pick in the draft. It seems like we have had a lot of number 1 picks and most of them are no longer on our team and a few of them are no longer in the league. I can't remember the last time we didn't take a QB or a WR with our first pick. I'm hoping that Stafford can be the guy who rights the ship. I hope he can be the face of the franchise for years to come. I hope that Culpepper does not get to start the season, but I'm not sure Stafford is ready to step in and get to work. All I know is that we are coming off the worst season in the history of the NFL and if something good doesn't happen to Detroit and Ford soon, we're in trouble.

At least we still have the Wings. Go big or go home....

Danger...

So the new 'Most Dangerous City' list came out and some may be surprised to know that Detroit has climbed back to the top of the list. Followed by Flint at number 3. 2 of the top 3 most dangerous citites are in Michiga. That's not good. I really feel like some billionaire could come in, revitalize the city and make money off of it. It would be awesome. But that will never happen, mostly because Kwame is a pretty bad mayor and he is part of the crime problem.

In lighter more impressive news, I read that a couple scientists found a way to turn skin cells into stem cells which means that hopefully, if it does end up working, stem cell research would be able to get much more funding. I never had a problem with stem cell research but could understand those that do, much as I am pro-choice but I still don't know exactly when an embryo becomes a person, though I know it's definitely not at conception. Hopefully this will be something that is actually viable and will lead to cures and save the world.

Anyways, slow week thus far for me. I'm pretty pumped for Thanksgiving. It's my favorite holiday of the year. Any day the Lions play and you are supposed to eat until you loosed your belt and pass out is pretty much the greatest day of the year. Add to that the fact that we have an annual nintendo extravaganza which will be enhanced this year for the first time by the Wii, and I can't think of a better way to spend a thursday afternoon.

Cheers. blah blah blah, go big.

oh ps - lots of movies coming out this week, This Christmas will be awesome, Hitman should be great but the fact that the director was replaced during post production scares me and Enchanted should be a pretty fantastic disney movie.
