Earlier this week I received the tragic news that a very close friend of Kingsford's died in a car accident late Monday night. Ruthie Smith was only 21 and was graduating from MSU in May. I only had the pleasure of hanging out with her once, but through facebook and Kingsford, it felt like I knew her better than that. From my limited time with her, it was clear that she was a fun-loving, caring, thoughtful and kind person who honestly brightened the lives of people she came in contact with. As Kingsford put it himself, "Ruthie was truly one of the most energetic and inspiring people that I had the honor of knowing and her friendship meant the world to me."
Life's unpredictable and tomorrow is uncertain at best, so gather ye rosebuds. Tell your friends that they're important to you and live your life to the fullest.
Rest in peace, Ruthie.

20,000...
You love me. You really really love me. Probably not. But I like numbers and today I (you) eclipsed the 20,000 page views for this blog. You people must have no life. Either that or I'm just that awesome and my narcissism is fully justified. While this number is grand, I'd like to thank those of you who used to follow me before blogger (I can't believe I've been blogging for over 5 years) way back when I was on friendster which was back when my computer had 2gigs of memory and was 500mhz - a long time ago. This was also a time when I'm pretty sure Mark Twain had a brief blogging experience. Other people who have had a blog and then quit (presumably because they aren't as lame or bored as I am) are Other Guy, Brown Guy, Decime (oh how I loved a good blog war), a couple different ones from Sylvia, a few others I used to link to but have subsequently forgotten and my other blog dedicated to the Pistons (who I will not mention again until after this season is over).
That said, I still have many things to talk about and if I wasn't in bed about to fall asleep I'd probably start now. But alas...I just wanted to say I appreciate you readers. I've learned it's nice to go back every once in a while and see what I was up to years ago (reading my own writing about my own life...doesn't get much more narcissistic than that right?) and if you guys didn't read this, I probably wouldn't keep writing...so thanks.

The Census...
A public service announcement...
I got a letter in the mail yesterday informing me that I will be getting my Census in the mail sometime in the next week. For such an important part of government, there seem to be a lot of people who don't care about it at all (and judging by the number of these letters tossed in the junk pile below my bank of mailboxes, a lot of these people live in my building).
Some people may ask, "why is the census that important?" Well I'd tell you, but Aaron Sorkin can do a much better job of it:
Basically, without a head count, there's no way to figure out how much money to direct to communities, cities, states, etc. This means schools, infrastructure and other programs don't get the funding they might need. So don't be like the assh*les in my building and fill it out.
Go big.

Zach Galifianakis...
"My name is Zach Galifianakis...and I hope I'm pronouncing that right."
Last night my eyes were opened to a very funny dude. I'm sure everyone knows who he is because of The Hangover, but until last night I wasn't a fan. I thought he was funny enough in that movie, but I thought he was the least funny of them all and I hated Visioneers, which is the only other movie I'd seen him in. So last night, Kingsford stopped by on his way through taking the time to use my air matress and let me know what I was missing about Zach.
He's hilarious. After watching his Live at the Purple Onion show on netflix last night, I realized I'd been missing out. He is one really funny comedian and has an incredible talent for one liners like I haven't seen since Mitch Hedberg. Anyway, if you haven't seen the show or don't have netflix, youtube (as always) is there for you and you can see the thing in it's entirety here. Do yourself a favor and watch it at some point this weekend. My favorite line in it was when he was talking about how drunk he was the night before, he said he drank so much that he "African American'ed out." Genius.
Go big or go home.
